Born in London, Liz Sharek moved to New Zealand over 30 years ago. She worked for many years as a physiotherapist but as her interest in object making became more apparent she enrolled as a full time student in the craft and design course at UNITEC. Further study lead Liz to graduate with a Masters Degree in Art and Design from AUT (Auckland University of Technology) in 2008. After this her work “developed from a craft based perspective to a more contextual focus.”
Liz produced kiln formed contemporary glass work from her home based studio in Auckland from the mid 90s. She then extended her material practice to a number of different media, particularly ceramics. Liz exhibits widely in New Zealand and Overseas and her work is represented in a number of public collections including that of Te Papa (The National Museum of New Zealand) in Wellington and The Ebletoft Glass Museum in Denmark. She now lives and works just north of Auckland in the Matakana Wine Country.
